Where to publish?
There are hundreds of journals which publish systematics research. Some are happy to publish a description of a single new species, or new locality records for well-known species. Others never touch species-level taxonomy, but are good places to publish a new molecular phylogeny.
The answer to the question 'Where to publish?' will obviously depend on the nature of your systematics research. Unfortunately, the guide below won't help you choose a journal based on its preferred subject matter. That's too complicated a choice! Instead, the guide offers information about journals you already know to be suitable for your systematics paper. It may also give you new ideas for places to publish.
The guide is biased. It covers English-language journals which might reasonably be expected to publish papers on the Australian biota. Journals are favoured which mainly publish morphological or morphological+molecular systematics. The list has also been shortened by excluding some print-only journals.

Please also note that some journals, especially those produced by museums, publish larger systematics works as special publications. Check the journal websites for more information.

- whether manuscripts can be submitted digitally
- whether the author gets a PDF reprint
- whether and how the journal is published online

- (in zoology) whether the journal is linked to ZooBank or other resources.
